Summer pond maintenance in nutshell
Summer heat have a great influence on the life of every biocoenosis, including the inhabitants of backyards ponds. Do you know how to properly maintenance pond in the summer? Check out some tips we have prepared for you!
Rest on holidays? Not for pond keepers!
During summer, the water heats up in your backyard pond. The higher the water temperature is, the lower the dissolved oxygen concentration is in it. Some species of fish (and not only that!) may therefore experience greater or lesser discomfort at this time. In turn, the vegetation in summer grows abundantly which can lead to the overgrowing of the reservoir and even more trauma to fish, amphibians and invertebrates. Therefore, the holiday period is not only a well-deserved rest, but also time to carry out specific care treatments in the pond.
Summer pond maintenance in nutshell
The main idea about summer pond maintenance is to find ta biological balance between animals, plants and microorganisms. As with an aquarium, the smaller the tank, the more difficult it is to keep it.
If you want a filtration in our pond, the filter should be activated in spring. During summer the effects of his work are most visible, because the biological input (numerous cultures of aerobic nitrifying bacteria) reaches its peak maturity and works with the highest efficiency. This is very important because the fish feed very intensively and are often overfed during summer, and at the same time the pond is often overfished. As a consequence, water is quickly saturated with harmful metabolic products, which disturbs the biological balance. Thus, the bacteria in the filter have a difficult task: they must efficiently process the excess of compounds (mainly nitrogen) in order to prevent deterioration of water quality and unrestrained algae infestation.
