HOW LARGE SHOULD YOUR FISH POND BE?
The minimum area of a stocked and planted pond should not be less than 104 square feet, and its depth shall not be less than 3 feet. Optimal size of your pond let biological equilibrium being maintained for a long time, and frost does not cause damage to plants and fish deaths. The basin can be a bit shallower (but always deeper than 2 feet) if you are not breeding fish or growing plants in a deep water zone, such as water lilies.
WHAT TO CONSIDER MORE?
- Water heats up quickly and has poor circulation in small reservoirs, so such ponds require constant care – controlling the purity of water, plant and fish health, oxygenation and adding water.
- It is easier to support water self-purification processes in large and deep ponds than in small and shallow ones.
